xix,[i],169,,-pp. index, -pp. errata, illus. with 3 engraved folding plates. Bound in olive-brown cloth that appears to be mid-19th century, but obviously not original to issue. Cloth is unevenly sunned, with modest shelf wear and light tearing at heel of spine. Newer endpapers, hinges starting, binding firm. Text block fully intact, with original deckled edges untrimmed. Title page mostly detached, with approx. 4" closed tear extending from binding edge into "Management" in fourth line of title; also approx. 2 1/2" triangular sliver with paper loss extending from binding edge toward "Thomas" in author's name, but affecting no text. Two short triangular slivers with loss at same points on dedication leaf as well, affecting only "Q" in "Queen's" in heading. Interior shows light scattered foxing and occasional light soiling to margins, overall quite clean and preserved. Plates show minor off-setting but are bold and intact, with small pin/puncture hole along bottom margins of Plates II and III, also extending to index. Solid first edition of a scarce, early and exceptional title on bee-keeping.
