Original brown cloth, lettered in dark brown, unrestored. xx,386, pp., illus. w/ frontis., 7 plates, numerous cuts in text, folding maps at rear. Lacking approx. 50% spine panel cloth and cloth along joints, but with underboard and mesh underlay fully intact, binding still very firm -- easily rebacked, if desired. Rubbed with exposure along top and bottom edges and at corners, which are somewhat layered. Typical surface rubbing and soiling. Mild foxing to several early and late leaves, with occasional light foxing through interior. Stamp of Somalia Mennonite Mission on half-title and on blank verso of frontis., which also shows two former owner signatures, occasional neat underlining through p. 15, otherwise unmarked. Text block toned by age but othewise intact. Both maps at rear have been neatly mended on verso with archival tape along several separated folds and tears, with a few short archival tape repairs on front of one map; maps are complete and intact. No longer the most attractive copy, but intact in its essentials and a good candidate for restoration. Scarce and significant.
